Answers to the most frequently asked questions about our Made To Measure Fire Retardant Curtains.
Yes – our experienced production team ensures all curtain panels are pattern matched from the top, so every window dressing, regardless of size, presents a consistent, professional appearance. This is especially important for multi-room commercial projects or hospitality suites.
Both pencil and deep pleats offer a classic, gathered appearance. The difference lies in scale and functionality:
Pencil Pleat: 3” heading tape with 3 hook positions. Suitable for standard windows and contract spaces.
Deep Pleat: 6” heading tape with 6 hook positions. Offers a more dramatic drop and is ideal for high ceilings or premium installations.
Both styles can be specified in fire resistant fabrics and are commonly used in care homes, hotels, and student accommodations.
Thermal lining is a specialist dual-layer fabric designed to improve energy efficiency in commercial interiors. It helps retain heat in winter and reflects warmth in summer, contributing to more stable internal temperatures. All our thermal linings can be combined with fire retardant curtain fabrics, ensuring compliance with UK safety regulations (e.g. BS 5867).
Wave curtains offer a modern, architectural finish using specialist tape and track systems that form a uniform “wave” effect. We offer both 60mm and 80mm wave sizes, with universal tape options for flexible hook placement every 1cm. Wave curtains are commonly used in contemporary hospitality or commercial developments and can be tailored for any fire resistant fabric on request.
Sateen lining is a single-layer woven fabric that protects curtain face fabrics from UV damage, helping extend product life. It is available in white, ivory, or cream. Sateen lining can be paired with flame retardant outer fabrics and is suitable for commercial environments seeking a lightweight finish while still meeting compliance needs.
Interlining adds a soft fleece-like layer between the main fabric and the lining. It increases thermal insulation and enhances drape for a plusher, more luxurious look.
We offer:
Heavyweight Interlining: Dense cotton fleece for maximum insulation.
Lightweight Interlining: Synthetic, for added body without added bulk.
Both types can be used alongside our fire retardant curtain fabrics, maintaining safety without compromising design.
Blackout lining is a triple-pass coated fabric that blocks light — essential for bedrooms, hospitality suites, student accommodation, and other privacy-sensitive spaces. Available in a soft ivory tone, it pairs with all our BS 5867 compliant fire retardant fabrics for full compliance and comfort.
We provide clear, project-specific measuring guides depending on your curtain heading type. For complex installations, our team offers advice or can arrange a site visit. Ensuring accurate measurements is key for a precise fit and fire regulation compliance.
Curtains with pencil or deep pleat headings arrive flat and are easily gathered on-site. Simply remove the plastic fixer, draw the cords through the heading tape, tie off, and distribute the pleats evenly. These are commonly used in contract fit-outs due to their flexibility and fire retardant compatibility.
We use a blind stitch hem on the face fabric for a seamless appearance, and a flat stitch on the lining to ensure durability without visual distraction. This standard is applied across our fire retardant curtain ranges to meet both aesthetic and compliance demands.
The following curtain headings are typically delivered ready to hang, making installation straightforward for commercial fit-outs:
Double Pinch Pleat
Triple Pinch Pleat
Cartridge
Goblet
Eyelet
The following styles require hooks and additional preparation before hanging:
Pencil Pleat
Deep Pleat
Wave
All styles can be specified in fire retardant fabrics suitable for commercial environments where regulatory compliance is essential.
Not all curtain styles require hooks. For curtain headings that do require hooks – such as pencil pleat, deep pleat, and wave – these are not supplied as standard, but can be added on request for commercial projects. Other styles, including pinch pleats and eyelets, are designed to be ready to hang upon delivery.
Yes – we offer a complimentary fabric sample service with freepost delivery. This allows you or your client to review the colour, texture and finish before placing an order. All samples are compliant with relevant UK fire safety standards (such as BS 5867 Part 2 Type B or C) and are ideal for use in care homes, hotels, student accommodation and other commercial interiors.
